BENEVOLENT BOTTLE SERVICE: GLASS HALF FULL
Since 2020, Tulane graduates Franziska Trautmann and Max Steitz have been working to understand and rectify the multi-pronged, bureaucracy-laden community issue that is recycling—and it all began with glass. In a city well known for its drinking habits, the pair were struck with the idea to collect glass waste and grind enough of it into sand to facilitate coastal restoration in areas that are rapidly disappearing due to erosion and climate change.
